The term Perovskite refers to the calcium titanium oxide mineral with the chemical formula CaTiO3 and, in general, to any material with the same crystal structure. The Perovskite structure can be generalized from CaTiO3 to ABO3 where A and B represent different elements taking the place of calcium and titanium.
Perovskite materials such as the methylammonium or formamidinium lead halides are cheap to produce and simple to manufacture. Solar cell efficiencies of devices using these materials -according to detailed balance analysis- is (in 2015 – year/ DATE ? ) about 31% making this currently the fastest advancing solar technology.
