Aerogel is the world’s lightest solid material. It is also known as solid air or frozen smoke because of its appearance which resembles the sky. Aerogels have extremely low density and low thermal conductivity.
The color of aerogels is a result of light scattering. Although they are made from gel they are solid, rigid and dry materials. Aerogels are used by NASA in order to trap space dust particles, in drug delivery systems, in sport’s equipment, automobiles, aircraft, and many more applications.
